Manitou Smart Weighing System (SWS): Smarter Loading, Better Farm Efficiency

Discover how Manitou’s new Smart Weighing System helps farmers improve loading accuracy, manage feed rations and keep track of materials, all from the comfort of the telehandler cab.

From loading grain trailers during harvest to preparing daily livestock feed rations, knowing exactly how much material you’re handling can make a real difference to farm efficiency.

Manitou has introduced its new Smart Weighing System (SWS) for telehandlers, designed to make everyday weighing tasks quicker, easier and more accurate.

With weighing information displayed directly in the cab, farmers can monitor loads as they work, helping to reduce waste, save time and make better use of their machinery.

What Is the Manitou Smart Weighing System?

The Manitou Smart Weighing System is an integrated weighing solution that allows operators to measure the weight of materials handled by their telehandler.

With an accuracy of ±2%, SWS supports both static and dynamic weighing, meaning operators can weigh materials while stationary or during hydraulic movements.

Unlike traditional weighing systems, SWS can measure loads across the machine’s entire load chart, regardless of boom angle, telescope position or carriage angle.

The system is integrated into Manitou’s 7-inch Vision display, so there’s no need for an additional screen in the cab.

How Can SWS Benefit Your Farm?

1. Load Trailers More Accurately

During busy harvest periods, loading trailers efficiently is essential. However, variations in crop density can make it difficult to judge how much grain, straw or other material is being loaded.

SWS allows operators to monitor the weight of each load, helping them reach their target weight more accurately and reduce the risk of overloading.

This can also minimise unnecessary journeys to remove excess material or top up underfilled trailers, saving valuable time and fuel.

2. Improve Livestock Feeding Accuracy

For livestock farmers, consistent feed rations are important for managing feed costs and maintaining herd performance.

SWS includes a dedicated feeding mode, allowing operators to create and manage up to 13 feed rations using 44 ingredients.

The number of animals being fed can also be adjusted, helping farmers prepare appropriate quantities for different groups.

By measuring ingredients accurately, farmers can improve ration consistency, reduce leftover feed and gain better control over feeding costs.

3. Choose the Right Weighing Mode for the Job

SWS offers four weighing modes to suit different agricultural tasks:

  • Basic mode: Measure individual loads quickly and easily.
  • Cumulative mode: Keep a running total of material loaded.
  • Target mode: Work towards a specified loading weight.
  • Feed mode: Prepare and manage livestock feed rations.

Weighing information can be recorded manually using a dedicated button or automatically when the boom crosses a configurable angle.

This flexibility makes SWS useful for a range of everyday farm operations, from grain handling to livestock feeding.

4. Monitor Material Usage and Stock Levels

Keeping track of feed, fertiliser and other agricultural materials can be challenging, particularly across busy farming operations.

SWS connects with the myMANITOU app, allowing farmers to review weighing data and monitor material usage remotely.

The app provides information on total tonnage handled, feed ration quantities and individual ingredients.

Farmers can also set initial stock levels and minimum stock thresholds for important materials. When a threshold is reached, an automatic notification helps them plan ahead and avoid running out.

5. Simple to Use, Straight from the Cab

Manitou has designed SWS to fit naturally into the operator’s working day.

The system is controlled through the telehandler’s existing Vision display, navigator and dedicated buttons, keeping the cab uncluttered.

A simple tare function allows operators to use compatible attachments without additional calibration, while an in-cab QR code provides access to helpful tutorial videos.

Designed for Everyday Agricultural Applications

From arable farms to livestock enterprises, SWS can support a wide range of material-handling tasks.

Manitou offers compatible attachments for handling grain, fertiliser, silage, manure and other bulk materials, helping farmers make practical use of the weighing system throughout the year.

The ability to monitor material weights and review weighing records also provides useful information for agricultural contractors managing loading operations for customers.
