What is the Valtra Q Series?

The Valtra Q Series is a high-horsepower tractor range for demanding agricultural and contracting applications.

Designed for large farms and contractors, the Q Series sits between the T and S Series and provides the power needed to operate large implements while retaining the technology, comfort and ease of use associated with Valtra’s modern tractor range.

The Q Series is built around three key areas:

  • Works like a beast: high horsepower, strong torque and an efficient driveline.
  • Thinks like a pro: integrated SmartTouch and precision farming technology.
  • Built for business: features designed to improve productivity, fuel efficiency and operator comfort.

What horsepower is the Valtra Q Series?

The Q Series consists of five models, ranging from 230 hp to 305 hp.

Model Standard power Boost power
Q225 230 hp 250 hp
Q245 245 hp 265 hp
Q265 265 hp 290 hp
Q285 285 hp 305 hp
Q305 305 hp 305 hp

The flagship Q305 provides 305 hp, while the Q225 offers 230 hp, giving operators a choice of power output depending on their workload and implement requirements.

What engine does the Valtra Q Series use?

Every Q Series model is powered by a 7.4-litre, six-cylinder AGCO Power engine.

The engine has been designed to produce high power and torque at relatively low engine speeds. Maximum power is available at 1,850 rpm, while maximum torque is available at 1,500 rpm.

The Q Series can produce up to 1,280 Nm of torque, providing the pulling power required for demanding fieldwork.

The engine also incorporates Valtra’s EcoPower principle, helping the tractor operate efficiently at lower engine speeds.

This is particularly useful when the tractor is working under a heavy load, where maintaining performance while avoiding unnecessary engine revs can help improve fuel efficiency

How does the Q Series CVT transmission work?

The Q Series uses an AGCO continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Rather than relying on fixed gears, the CVT provides stepless speed control, allowing the tractor to automatically adjust its engine and transmission operation according to the work being carried out.

The Q Series’ electronic transmission management is designed to select the lowest appropriate engine speed for the task, helping to reduce fuel consumption.

This makes the tractor straightforward to operate, whether it is carrying out heavy fieldwork or travelling between fields and farms.

For the operator, the combination of a high-torque engine and CVT transmission means that the Q Series can deliver power smoothly without requiring constant manual adjustment.

How much hydraulic capacity does the Valtra Q Series have?

The Q Series is designed to work with large, modern implements, so hydraulic performance is a key part of the tractor.

The hydraulic system provides more than 200 litres/minute of hydraulic flow, giving it the capacity to operate demanding hydraulic functions and modern high-capacity implements.

The rear linkage can lift up to 10,000 kg, while the front linkage can lift up to 4,800 kg.

The video above demonstrates the Q Series’ hydraulic and linkage functions, highlighting how the operator can control and adjust implement functions directly from the cab.

For farmers and contractors using large cultivation equipment, drills, planters or other hydraulic-demanding implements, this provides the capacity needed to make full use of modern machinery.

Designed for large implements

The Q Series has been designed around the needs of high-horsepower users.

Its 3,050 mm wheelbase provides stability and traction, while its relatively low operating weight of around 9,200 kg gives the tractor a useful balance between performance and soil protection.

With a maximum gross weight of 16 tonnes, the Q Series also provides a substantial payload, allowing operators to add ballast when required for heavy draft work without carrying unnecessary weight when it is not needed.

This approach means the tractor can be configured according to the job, whether that means heavy cultivation requiring additional ballast or lighter fieldwork where minimising soil compaction is a priority.

What is the Q Series cab like?

The Q Series has been designed around the operator, with a cab based on the proven Valtra T Series design.

Visibility is a key feature. The cab has approximately 6.2 m² of glass, combined with a 270-degree front wiper and 180-degree side wiper to provide good visibility in difficult weather conditions.

The cab is also designed to provide a comfortable working environment during long days.

Features include:

  • Air-suspended cab
  • Aires front axle suspension
  • Adjustable steering wheel
  • Driver-specific SmartTouch profiles
  • Automatic climate control
  • Multiple air vents
  • Premium seating options
  • Integrated coolbox
  • USB charging
  • Phone connectivity

At the heart of the operator environment is Valtra’s SmartTouch interface.

The touchscreen provides access to the tractor’s key settings and functions, while the layout is designed to make operation intuitive.

The display provides information such as engine speed, transmission settings, hydraulic functions and implement information.

Operators can configure settings to suit their individual requirements and the particular job they’re carrying out.

What is the A-Pillar display?

Another useful feature highlighted in the Q Series is the A-Pillar display.

Positioned within the driver’s natural line of sight, it allows important tractor information to be viewed without requiring the operator to look down at another screen.

Information such as engine speed, ground speed, fuel level and transmission status can be displayed.

When travelling on the road, the display can automatically reduce non-essential information so the operator can concentrate on driving.

It’s a small detail, but one that demonstrates the Q Series’ focus on combining technology with practical usability.

Lighting for working around the clock

The Q Series is designed for demanding operations where work does not necessarily stop when daylight does.

Its lighting package provides extensive illumination around the tractor, helping operators work safely and effectively in low-light conditions.

Combined with the cab’s excellent visibility and windscreen wiping coverage, the Q Series is designed to provide a clear view of the working environment in a wide range of conditions.

For farmers and contractors working around tight weather windows, having a tractor equipped for long working days can be a significant advantage.

Is the Valtra Q Series suitable for contractors?

Yes. The Q Series is specifically designed with large farms and agricultural contractors in mind.

Its combination of high horsepower, CVT transmission, hydraulic capacity, lifting capability and precision technology makes it suitable for demanding applications such as:

  • Heavy cultivation
  • Drilling
  • Planting
  • Large PTO-driven implements
  • Transport
  • High-capacity fieldwork
  • Precision farming
  • Agricultural contracting

Its comfortable cab and intelligent controls are also important for contractors and operators who may spend many hours in the tractor during busy periods.

How can the Q Series help reduce running costs?

High horsepower does not necessarily have to mean unnecessarily high fuel consumption.

The Q Series’ combination of a large-displacement engine, low engine speeds, CVT transmission and intelligent transmission management is designed to deliver the required performance while keeping engine revs as low as practical.

Valtra states that the Q Series can deliver up to 10% fuel savings compared with the relevant segment benchmark, while its smart farming technology can help reduce overlaps and input use.

The tractor’s relatively low operating weight and long wheelbase can also help minimise unnecessary soil compaction, while the optional central tyre inflation system can help optimise tyre pressures for field and road conditions.
